Romans 13:11-14 – 11 And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
The sinful nature comes natural from the fall. It takes effort and it takes work. We need to do our best to discipline ourselves to stay the course. The power is in the Lord. However, if we don’t seek Him and choose to follow those desires the power is not going to be able to be effective. It doesn’t matter what the sin is, the Lord can pull us through. Where we first get into trouble with sins is when we think about how to gratify them. That’s why the Lord wants us to capture those thoughts early. He wants us to resist.
James 4:7 – 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
