Quote – Augustine

21 Aug

The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home.
Augustine

Philippians 3:20 – 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

As believers we are not of this world.  Our citizenship is in heaven.

The Word of God is our love letter from our Creator.  It brings life.

1 Peter 1:23 – 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Think yourself as a plant and the Word of God and both the water and nourishment to help you grow.
Look around you and see others.

We need to feed ourselves the living water on a regular basis.  Otherwise we dry up and wither.

Quote – Dwight L. Moody

07 Aug

Some people think God does not like to be troubled with our constant coming and asking. The way to trouble God is not to come at all.
Dwight L. Moody

There is a misnomer that God is too busy since there is so much going on.  Therefore I will only bother Him when things get really bad and as soon as they get better I won’t bother Him at all.

God doesn’t have a problem multitasking.  He also isn’t interested in us living and doing our own thing without Him.

God created man for relationship, not for us to take off do our own things in a haywire mess.  He didn’t make us to have man completely run away and reject God.

John 15:5-6 – 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

The easiest way to get away from God is to constantly not seek Him.

If we examine our own lives, we get into the most trouble when we are doing our own thing and don’t seek Him.  This is to be expected since we are fallen sinful creatures.

Who in the bible is a man after God’s own heart?  That’s right David.  David looked to God for his guidance and constantly prayed and gave Him praise.  During those times God didn’t tell David, you know I think you’re a little clingy or to close and you’re smothering me.

No, the people in the bible who constantly seek and praise God like David and others, we’re considered those who showed God the most love and were those that after His heart.

You’re not troubling God unless you’re off trying to do it all on your own.

Quote – Charles Stanley

31 Jul

The amount of time we spend with Jesus – meditating on His Word and His majesty, seeking His face – establishes our fruitfulness in the kingdom.
Charles Stanley

If you’re in a fruit stand and you make your living selling apples and nothing more, you best be selling apples.  The problem with many Christians is they aren’t spreading the Word of God at all, because they don’t know it.  They are selling what they think they should be, but the problem is there is truth to be shared and told to others.

The fruit comes from the Holy Spirit, Jesus, and God (the Trinity).  Jesus is the Word.  The Holy Spirit doesn’t teach contrary to the Word.  Jesus doesn’t do anything apart from the Father.

John 5:19 – 19 Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

As Christians we can’t be selling whatever fruit we want, especially as we see many doing in these last days.  The only way to know if it’s the right fruit is to meditate on His Word.

Quote – C.S. Lewis

24 Jul

The only things we can keep are the things we freely give to God.
C. S. Lewis

We know this to be fact. You take nothing physical from this earth with us.  The new body we received will be just that, new.  Everything else is left behind.  The only thing we take with us is our actions.

Did we ask for forgiveness?
Did we make Jesus Lord?
Did we worship God?
Did we live for Him or selfishly for ourselves?
Did we try to love and reach others so they do not perish?
Did we love others as ourselves?
Did we live for God and a good life or did we live for evil?

These are some things we take with us and you can see none of them has to do with worldly success.

Ecclesiastes 5:15 –  15Naked a man comes from his mother’s womb, and as he comes, so he departs.
He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.

So what are we to be working for?  Which kingdom?

Quote – A.W. Tozer

Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically
tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshippers meeting together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become unity conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.  Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified. The body becomes stronger as its members become healthier. The whole church of God gains when the members that compose it begin to seek a better and a higher life.
A W Tozer

Philippians 2:1-5 – 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

The closer we draw near to the Lord as Christians, the closer we as Christians will draw closer to each other.  What are those things that followed verse 5?

Philippians 2:6-7 – 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

Who does the world look up to?  The one who has servants or the one who is a servant?  He truly is not from this world is He?  Yet when you look at the one who selflessly gives to others and denies themselves, you know in your heart that it is the correct way we all should be.

Quote – Martin Luther

10 Jul

Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming
and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.

Martin Luther

You would think that this quote was made within the last 40 years.  Yet even Martin Luther was seeing it in his day around 500 years ago.

God didn’t create man to be self sufficient.

John 15:5-6 – 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like
a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

Seek the Lord everyday and remain in Him.

Quote – D. L. Moody

04 Jul

A man ought to live so that everybody knows he is a Christian… and most of all, his family ought to know.
Dwight L. Moody

Let your light shine.

Luke 8:16 –  16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he
puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.

Mark 8:38 – 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Our relationship with the Lord should be the most important thing in our lives.  The most important
thing in anyone’s life is revealed when you know them.

Your family is your first mission field and is your biggest responsibility when it comes time to standing in front of the Lord.

Quote – C. S. Lewis

19 Jun

Pride gets nopleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next
man.
C. S. Lewis

This is a hard one to understand unless you get around it
and see it happening first hand.  Our natural
instinct is to want blessings, however, the fall has caused the appetite of man
not be able to be fulfilled.

Why?

Man is trying to quench his wants rather than his needs.  He’s trying to do it without God.

Since there is never enough to satisfy in this world without
God and Jesus being number one, pride steps in and the want is never quenched.

Matthew 6:28-35- 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and
your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things
will be given to you as well.

Quote- Martin Luther

12 Jun

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.
Martin Luther

Prayer is our communication with the Lord.

Prayer isn’t always a formal gathering.  The nice thing about those is when 2 or more are gathered it says the Lord is there with them.

Matthew 18:20 – 20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”

However, we should be praying all the time to our LORD.  It’s our communication line that we can praise Him, thank Him, request to Him, ask Him to answer questions, ask Him for understanding, ask Him for strength, etc.

A relationship without communication; is what kind of relationship?

I’ll let you answer that one.

How often should we pray?

1Thessalonians 5:17 –  17Pray without ceasing.

Quote – Keith Green

05 Jun

If your heart takes more pleasure in reading novels, or watching TV, or going to the movies, or talking to friends, rather than just sitting alone with God and embracing Him, sharing His cares and His burdens, weeping and rejoicing with Him, then how are you going to handle forever and ever in His presence…? You’d be bored to tears in heaven, if you’re not ecstatic about God now!
Keith Green

I would like to add that the fast paced, pleasure seeking country we live in has really brought this quote to life.

If God made this earth and everything that is in it, including us, how can man feel this way that Keith was referring to?

I see most people feeling this way and that’s why they are chasing after this world.

To think that the world would have more to offer than our Lord is just a matter of not seeking Him.  I can look back on my own life and before I turned the reigns over to Him, I made things unhappy, stressful, and my life was nowhere mess.

Don’t buy the lie.  The lie has been for sale for 6,000 years.  The serpent and Devil has been selling this untruth for anyone willing to buy.

What are going to seek?  The other lie is that you can live one way and still be fine in the other.  The New Testament warnings do not indicate that.  Either to not know Him at all;

Matthew 7:21-13 –  21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

or to be saved, but all works burnt up, can’t be the goal Christians will want to have come the Judgment.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 – 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

Seek the Lord!  You will find that the more you seek Him and truly know Him better, the more you will understand what Keith Green is saying.  You will also find the true reason you were created and will get back on the path God had intended for you.

If you take time to seek Him, he’ll still give you some time to enjoy those special things you enjoy.  You just won’t be making them the priority of your life and forgetting the most important.
