An Example On The Cost Of Truth Concerning The Church

13 Sep

1Thessalonians 2:13-16 – 13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 14 For you, brothers, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own countrymen the same things those churches
suffered from the Jews, 15 who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to all men 16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at
last.

It reminds me of the last days to come.  Truth and the acceptance of it only will be frowned upon and shunned by the world.  The big thing that Christians not following the Word are saying now is acceptance is Love.  The Word of God is not rules written by men but God.

Rule one is we are sinners and doomed for hell.  Rule two is God provided the only way back to Him.  It’s free and He provided the way by dying on a cross.  Rule three is man can’t decide he doesn’t like the other two rules and make up his own.

Salvation is our first step towards the Lord.  Our lives after that are to live for our Lord and not our sinful nature.

The church in the last days will be persecuted for sticking with the Word of God.  Stand for Truth!

Don’t Lie To Each Other

12 Sep

Colossians 3:9 – 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and
have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Pretty basic stuff, but our sinful nature has a tendency to want to tell mistruths.

God is Truth and the devil is the father of lies.

We tend to roll over that too quickly.  Let’s do it again.

God is TRUTH and the devil is the father of LIES.

We have to make it our decision to live for Truth.  We have to make a decision not to live for LIES.  It’s one of those things that you need to be prepared for ahead of time.  Not a last second decision.

What’s the worst thing about someone who lies to you?  You can never trust them.  They may be telling the truth, but they may be lying.

One the greatest things about serving and living for the Lord is you know that you can trust Him and that He will not lie to you.

Another advantage you have is you know you can NEVER trust Satan or anyone who is loyal to him.

Stand for Truth, He will set you free!

Beware In Last Days – No Other Gospel

09 Sep

Galatians 1:6-10 – 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you
accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still
trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

We’re in the last days.  Churches are trying to push attendance by conforming to the ways of the world and not rocking the boat.

Danger!

The strong words above are not Paul’s but inspired by a loving God who sets the way.

What’s changed?  Eve took a piece of fruit, but the whole point is she was going to do it her way.  She wasn’t duped by the serpent, she chose the wrong path.  She chose to want to be like the Most High, not serve the Most High.  Adam chose to follow Eve, not God.

No one can claim ignorance in a day that the Word of God is the most owned book.  Churches and clergy will have no excuse at the time of judgment if they are preaching another gospel.

Don’t stay in a church that’s pulling you away from the Word of God.  Find one that it is still the ruling
manual.  Many in the last days will fall away from the truth.  They will follow their itching ears and there will be scratcher out there for every ear if someone isn’t careful.

2 Timothy 4:1-5 –  1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the
time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

God has given us prophecy as gift.  Those who want to follow the truth and the Light will be able to protect their hearts, minds, and souls.

Forgiveness And Reaffirm Love

08 Sep

2 Corinthians 2:5-11 –  5 If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent—not to put it too severely. 6 The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9 The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10 If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

This day and age is trickier on how to do with things.  We live in a time where people aren’t just sinning; they are getting to the point that they aren’t seeking the Lord.

The verses above are referring to a Christian who really does care.  He is sincere in being distraught that he failed the Lord and his fellow believers.  By all means, this is when we need to seek the strength of the Lord and to help strengthen our brother and sister.

The tough part we now have to deal with everyday is, “The Lord made me who I am and this is who I am supposed to be.  You have to accept it and love me for it.”

That’s not what the above referenced verses are saying.  That’s a heart that hasn’t repented or sought what the Lord wants or expects.  We’re all sinners and all need to fight some form of who we can naturally be.

Getting back to the forgiveness of someone who has done wrong, think of it like school children.  You have kids that get shunned in every group and then the child ends up in a group of the rest that have been shunned.  In many cases those groups can be easy pickens with the stuff that comes with low self esteem.  Enough of that, but when someone who is a Christian can’t go back and strengthen again they can become either bitter and fall away, or the enemy slips in with sheep’s clothing slowly getting them off the path.

As we all know forgiveness is essential as it is the only reason we are even allowed back into the presence of God in the first place.  He forgave us even thought He has never wronged us.  Here we wrong each other all the time and who wants to be the unforgiving individuals?

Our strength as Christians comes in our love from God to each other.  That means forgiving.  It also means letting someone know the truth and that it’s not okay according to the Word of God on some of the things they are doing.  The Word of God is what corrects, not us.  That’s why we all need to do our best to obey it because we don’t have a leg to stand on if we don’t live it ourselves and let others then know they should be living it.

Faith And Acting On It – Part Two

07 Sep

Two days ago and today we are talking on examples of faith in the Bible.

Matthew 8:5-13 – 5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering.”  7 Jesus said to him, “I will go and heal him.”

8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, “I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the
subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.

The Centurion had faith in the power of the Lord.

When I read the above verses, the one thing that really sticks out to me is when Jesus states many will come from the east and west to take their places and feast with Abraham.  You see salvation comes through Jesus which came through the line of the Jews.  However, the Lord loves us all and doesn’t want any to perish.

Of course the other is the Centurion saying to the Lord, Just say the word and it will be done.  He believed it.  That’s not the power of positive thinking.  He knew the Lord had to grant it, he just didn’t believe He was going to do it automatically.  He knew the if the Lord did, it would be done.  Either way it was the correct faith to have.

I find when the request is to benefit the Kingdom, our relationship with Him, or relationships with others concerning Him, some form always seems to be answered.  Not only that, but much better than if we did it ourselves.  MUCH!

We need to put faith into the Lord, not ourselves.  When we do things, we need to do them with the Lord in mind, not just ourselves.  Trust in the Lord, He wants that very much.

Faith And Acting On It – Part One

05 Sep

Luke 5:18-19 – 18 Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.

These men acted in faith.  They wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of lowering the paralyzed man
down from the roof if they didn’t have faith that Jesus would heal him.

Do we act on faith today?  Do you think Jesus wanted this man to cast his burden onto Him or do you
think Jesus wanted him to work it out himself?

Of course the Lord wants us to trust Him and cast our cares and prayers onto Him.  Yet what do most
of us do?  Try to do it all ourselves and our way.  What kind of faith is that?

Independence away from the Lord is how we get into trouble.  It’s a good way to drift into the darkness.

Does God like faith from people?

In the verses above Jesus ends it by saying:

Luke 5:24-26 – ………….. He said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”

There is much more to these verses but I wanted to concentrate on the faith portion instead of the battle on the forgiveness of sins with the Pharisees.

The Lord isn’t looking for an independent self reliant group of people.  He is looking for a loving submissive bunch of servants.

Tomorrow we will stay on the theme of faith.

A Lamp And A Light

04 Sep

Proverbs 6:23 – 23 For these commands are a lamp,
this teaching is a light,
and the corrections of discipline
are the way to life,

Psalm 119:105 – 105 Your word is a lamp to my
feet and a light for my path.

2 Peter 1:19 – 19 And we have the word of the
prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to
a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises
in your hearts.

Walk towards the Light, which is provided from our Lord in God’s Word.

Psalm 117

02 Sep

Psalm 117

 1 Praise the LORD, all you nations;
   extol him, all you peoples.
2 For great is his love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.

   Praise the LORD.

Only two verses and yet it makes it clear.  Everyone needs to praise Him.  He is more than worthy.  Also it reminds us that He loves us and He will faithfully do so.  We have a promise from our Lord.  In a world where counting on people can be few and far between, this is a blessing.  A sure Word.

Put Paul’s Words And Actions Into Practice

01 Sep

Philippians 4:9- 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Truly a man who was passionate about what he believed in.  God saw Paul’s heart and knew that here was a man who was persecuting Christians, because he thought it was right.  After Jesus struck him down on
the road to Damascus, he started on his new founded truthful journey in Christ.

It was that heart that allowed the Lord to teach, inspire, and work through him.

There is so much to all of Paul’s letters, so much to learn and study.  Paul is right.  If we put into practice what he taught or how he then lived, the peace of God will come over us.  To know the Lord as well as Paul did, made him realize that he wanted to be with the Lord right away, but knew there was a love and responsibility to share the Good News.  The world had nothing to offer that could compare to God’s Kingdom or that he would jeopardize any of his reward.

1 Timothy 6:9-12

31 Aug

1 Timothy 6:9-12 – 9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of
evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

The Bible and especially the New Testament doesn’t read like an American get rich book.  I read them growing up.  I was encouraged by more people to read them vs. the Bible, but ultimately I chose to read them at that time instead of the Bible.  I knew what those books were telling me.  Since I wasn’t reading the
Bible and I couldn’t tell you what it was saying at all.

I’ve read both of them now.  It’s not a matter of taste where the truth lies in the words.

After studying the Bible, I know who the author is of it and I know who the author is of those get rich books.

You don’t even have to have money to love it.  There are people that chase after it or things that pertain to it their whole lives and many never get it.  Doesn’t matter, because that is where their hearts were.

Verse 9 talks about the temptation of foolish and harmful desires.  Those things plunge men into ruin and destroy lives.  I’ve seen some walk on a tight wire teetering much of their lives.  Most everyone in this country has.  The bad thing is no one who is trapped into it ever thinks its them, until they have hit rock bottom or pulled themselves out of it and into a new life with the Lord.

Verses 11 & 12 are the answer to 9 & 10.

Flee from the things of the world.  Flee from the temptation.  Flee from the destruction.

I know it’s tough.  It’s all that is taught by the world today.  The fallen flesh desires the very things that most are chasing after.  Success by the world’s standards is based off the material possessions and positions attained.  Not everyone thinks that way, but the world as a whole does and it is stronger than ever.

Most of us today live in the top 1 percent of luxury and wealth when you figure the beginning of man until the present. There were Kings that didn’t have access to what the average man takes for granted today.  Yet most of us are only worried about what we don’t have and what more we could have.  We desire it in the name of achievement and motivation.

God wants that same achievement and motivation from us to go towards His Kingdom and in our commitment and love to Him.

I want you to be RICH.  Rich in your desire and relationship with the Lord.
