The Importance Of The Sabbath

05 Jul

I just got done doing a draft on The Law And Jesus Christ.  That prompted me to do this story.  I never know when I’m actually going to post them or which one will be first.

Many people think that the Ten Commandments are a guidance of the Old Testament.  Once Jesus came that we no longer have to worry about the legalism of the Ten Commandments.

Matthew 5:17 –  17“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Paul reminds us that we are saved by grace.  We are saved by the blood of Jesus.  This is a fact and Christians today are all about the grace and then I’m free to do what I want.

That’s not how were supposed to live.  There is nothing in the Ten Commandments that we shouldn’t be doing today in our lives.  The number one that comes up is observing the Sabbath.  That is what I want to write on today.

What is important about the Sabbath?  It is suppose to be a day of rest.  During this day of rest we are to recognize and meditate on the Lord.

You don’t think we need that in the hustle and bustle of today.  We’re so busy that most people won’t even give 60 seconds of their day to the Lord.  People are so busy today that they want to spend their weekend on relaxing for themselves.  Yet they have no time for God.

You want to know why you need to go to Church?  You’re doing something for God.  Something you need for yourself also, but something for God.

If you’re honest with yourself, you can’t possibly be excited to stand in front of God if you have done nothing with Him, for Him, talked with Him, or sought Him.

Don’t finish your life and feel this way when standing in front of the most important Person in the universe that you were suppose to have a relationship with.

By having Jesus as Savior we don’t have the legalistic part of the law, but we need to obey it.  Jesus was upset with the teachers of the Law and other religious Jews concerning the Sabbath.  Why?  Because they got upset with Him, when he was healing on the Sabbath.  Jesus was doing God’s will on the Sabbath.  We need to rest and give more time to God.  It doesn’t have to be legalistic.  That is the importance of the observing the Sabbath.
